Alan Turing: The Enigma part 2

Finally I have finished the book. I know it looks like it took me ages, but I didn’t have time to read much and also I wanted to read it very slowly to be sure I understand as much as possible. Also, I have spent some time Googling somethings for better understanding. A while ago I have written another post about this book (Alan Turing: The Enigma) which talked about the 1st half and I thought it would be a good idea to share my opinion on the other half.

First of all I have to say that everything from the 2nd half was completely knew to me, I had no idea of what Alan Turing has done after Enigma. And it was extremely interesting to find out more about his other projects (e.g. Delilah).

Moreover, I got extremely interested in the part where Alan works for his idea of “computer” or “brain”. All his ideas are incredible and I got quite shocked and intrigued by the fact that he understood more about computers and artificial intelligence than I thought. For this project, it was interesting (but also frustrating on parts) to see how people didn’t understand him and the political part of UK after the WWII.

I was extremely impressed by how the book handled the things close to his death and the homosexuality issue. I don’t want to give many spoilers about this part, but it was incredibly interesting and made me feel a little emotional in some aspects.

And here is me finally finishing reading this book. It took me quite a lot of time, but I have to say it is an incredible experience and even though I had to stop and search some subjects I didn’t know much about, or re-read pages again to understand things better, this book made it to my list of favorite books ever.

With these said, I totally recommend you give it a try to the book, you will not be disappointed I assure you. Obviously I should mention the movie too because it was the reason I searched for the book, the reason I wanted to find out more.
