Maths and Cats

I am a cat lover and most of the time I say that ‘there is an isomorphism between cats and mathematics (especially geometry)’ . For anyone who doesn’t know what an isomorphism is, here are some small definitions:

  •  a one-to-one correspondence between the elements of two or more sets, such as those of Arabic and Roman numerals, and between the sums or products of the elements of one of these sets and those of the equivalent elements of the other set or sets
  • a one-to-one relation onto the map between two sets, which preserves the relations existing between elements in its domain.

Basically it is an injective homorphism between two sets. If you want to see a more mathematical post about this let me know in the comments bellow.

So back to the cats post. I believe that sometimes it is very easy to explain some of the geometric concepts using funny pictures that show the concepts in real time. This time I have chosen Cats to show you some interesting concepts.

This lovely geometry cat shows us a 90 degrees angle, and a nice right angled triangle can be drawn there. These triangles are some of the basic things most of us learn. They are important in many ways, we use them for Pythagoras Theorem and also for the trigonometric functions. If you remember the importance of this triangles from the beginning, life in your geometry class will be way easier. From this example you can start to think at other triangles and their applications. A good example is this lovely cat that tries to think about how she can get to a toy on the table.

Lovely representation and if you pay attention to this complicated (at first) drawing you will understand some important things about the significant lines in a triangle: altitudes, angle bisectors, medians. Also there you can see all 3 types of angles: right, acute and obtuse. Let me know in the comments bellow if you want to see more explanations about the geometry this cat knows, and I will do another post with this.

And also a basic cat geometry. If you want to see more about the shapes this cat is making about let me know.

I hope that this post made you all more curios about this basic geometric shapes, and also if you already know a lot of things about this, hope you enjoyed my way of thinking at geometry as cat shapes.

  1. I do not even know how I ended up here, but I thought this post was great.
I don’t know who you are but certainly you are going to a famous
blogger if you are not already 😉 Cheers!

  2. I do accept as true with all of the ideas you have
introduced on your post. They’re very convincing and will definitely work.
Nonetheless, the posts are very brief for beginners.

May just you please lengthen them a bit from next time?
    Thank you for the post.
